Meet the Team

Anant Deshwal

Assistant Professor of Biology, Bradley University, Secretariat member and Director of Community Program - Ethno-ornithology World Atlas (EWA). I am a quantitative field ecologist and conservation biologist. I focus on how anthropogenic disturbances are affecting the inter-species interactions. My lab also focuses on understanding Traditional Ecological Knowledge and its importance in conservation. I had received my Ph.D from the University of Arkansas and Postdoc from the University of Tennessee. For more info visit: adeshwal.com

Brianna Cook

Brianna Cook is a Environmental Science major on the biology with a criminology and sustainability minor. Brianna plans to pursue a graduate degree in conservation ecology. Brianna heads the mammal-human landscape of fear projects, & is involved with the moth and snake projects. Harri Barker

My Name is Harri, and I'm a senior in the Bradley Lab of Conservation. My work primarily focuses on moth conservation and I'm currently working on a project titled "Impact of Human-dominated Landscapes on Macro-Moth species composition in Central Illinois". I'm very passionate about insect conservation and am planning to pursue my master's at Bradley collecting more data on this project. I'm also conducting research on fungi and dictyostelid composition and diversity from non-passerine birds in central Illinois. I would like to continue my education by attaining a Ph.D. in ecology and conservation specializing in entomology. I love to excite and educate people about moths, as they are wonderful and interesting creatures who get overlooked to often. My favorite moth is the darling underwing (Catocala cara).

Tyler McMahon

My name is Tyler McMahon. I am a graduate student here in Deshwal Lab and my research focuses on conservation and land management in tallgrass prairies. My field site is at Nachusa Grasslands and see the effects of controlled burning and bison grazing on moth diversity. I have presented my research in many places such as Columbus Georgia, Chicago, and New York and have won several awards for my research such as the John C. Johnson award at Tri-Beta's regional conference. I plan on pursuing a career in conservation and land management and aim to complete a PhD in this field

Anna Berg

My name is Anna Berg. I am a sophomore biology major with a concentration in ecology and evolution. I am actively involved in projects on urban ecology (effect on birds, insects, and mammals). I also help with mist-netting in the warmer months of the year and enjoy learning about all of the different bird species found here in central Illinois.

We Integrate With Your Ecosystem

We work as a team. For us the principles of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion are very important.

This Lab celebrates Indigenous or Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and collaborates with the University of Oxford, Ethno-ornithology World Atlas  on conserving TEK/ IEK/ LEK.
